Wood is stored solar energy, it’s a sustainable fuel source right on our doorstep that can be collected from where it falls or managed and grown sustainably.

Log and wood chip boilers are able to burn a variety of wood types and are ideal if you have a ready supply. The boilers controls the rate of burning to produce the required heat output, but do have to be manually loaded daily.

Advantages:
1. Log and wood chip boilers can burn a variety of wood types including beech logs, spruce logs, coarse wood chip and wood briquettes.

  

2. Logs and wood chips are one of the cheapest fuels on the market.
3. Using logs and/or wood chips means you no longer have to rely on unstable fuel prices.
4. Wood does not add to global warming, as it is carbon neutral.

Costs & Savings
Savings will depend on how much they are used and which fuel you are replacing.  Wood costs generally depend on the distance from your supplier and whether you can buy in large quantities.

What is Biomass?
Biomass is produced from organic materials, either directly from plants or indirectly from industrial, commercial, domestic or agricultural products. It is often called 'BioEnergy' or 'Biofuels'. It doesn't include fossil fuels, which have taken millions of years to be created.
For small-scale domestic applications of biomass the fuel usually takes the form of wood pellets, wood chips or wood logs

The Benefits
Producing energy from biomass has both environmental and economic advantages.
It is a carbon neutral process as the CO2 released when energy is generated from biomass is balanced by that absorbed during the fuel's production. Furthermore, biomass can contribute to waste management by harnessing energy from products that are often disposed of at landfill sites.
